Interactive video & sound installation
Yale School of Architecture Gallery
2022
Concept, project lead, technical & installation lead
In collaboration with Chloe Hou, Yunming Zhang, Yossef Denial, Junyan Hu, and Shi Li
Assembled from discarded cardboard and scrapped tech and formally inspired by Japanese novel “the Box Man.”
The interactive installation adresses contemporary issues of the ever-presence of digital image, surveillance within public and private space, media technology development, data privacy, and their relationship with consumer culture and the global trade infrastructure.
Pairs of webcams, excess from pandemic times, hide in cardboard boxes like a pair of voyeuristic mechanical eyes. Hidden all around the school, they capture and stream stereoscopic live videos to google cardboard VR viewers inside the gallery.
A facial recognization algorithm mindlessly captures the face of every visitor and adds to the collection of projected profiles on the cardboard mosaic.
